A consistent and wise man, Carlo Tancredi Falletti di Barolo, is one of the character who during the Piedmont Renaissance showed his integrity and Christian faith like few other. Together with his wife Giulia, has made this area very rich from the wine production point of view. He was capable of great ingenuity, an experienced manager both in the public field and in the private one. He was keen on humanities and despite his riches, he stayed a humble and private person.

Giulia di Barolo is a direct descendant of Colbert family, know since 1459 and enlightened in XVII century by Jean-Baptist Colbert, famous and big minister of Louis XIV. Already in 1588 the Colbert family was flourishing from the commercial point of view of wines, cloth and silk; commercial activities carried on after centuries by Juliette who, besides her charity works, gave to the Langhe area a marvelous historical period from the food and wine point of view.

Thanks to him, together with Cavour and to the Marquises, we owe the birth of the modern Barolo around 1830. French winemaker and wine dealer in Genoa, Louis Claude Odart is a very mysterious character. Remembered above all for his cunning in the piedmont wine environment, he remained in the history for his experiments on the Langhe wines, above all on the Nebbiolo.
The Earl Vittorio Amedeo Alfieri was an italian playwright, poet and writer. He was a good friend and a regular at the Marquises Falletti di Barolo, with whom he loved talking about Dante, Petrarca, Machiavelli and all the Enlightenment thinkers such as Voltaire, Montesquieu. During his stay in Paris, he was enthusiastic about the French Revolution, but soon, due to the degenerate of the situation, he started to have a deep aversion towards France. He came back to Italy, where he continued to write, in opposition to the Napoleonic regime. He died in Florence on 1803 and he was interred among the big Italians at the “Basilica di Santa Croce”.
Giulia is beautiful and elegant and she belongs to a french aristocratic family. When her father, with Napoleone’s approval, asks her to get married with a gentleman, a few years older, Giulia didn’t even blink. That man is Carlo Tancredi Falletti, Marquess of Barolo and court chamberlain, with Enlightenment ideas and impeccable integrity. An arranged marriage, but between kindred spirits. While Carlo deals with health and education, Giulia takes care of prostitutes, thieves and killer, locked up in jail, and she teaches them to write and to read. A life spent entirely for the lasts, but she is not only a lady full of zeal and charity, together with her husband dedicated themselves to the production of the famous Barolo.
